Upon recomendation by Jardin d'Europe co-organiser Southbank Centre (UK), Cullberg Ballet invited the artist Richard Boyce (UK) and visual artist Julia Bardsley (UK) for a two-week residency at Riksteatern, Cullberg Ballets production house in Stockholm (SE).

During the residency, Cullberg Ballet offered lodging in central apartment hotel, individual local transportation cards, a Theatre/ black box, equipped with sound, video and lighting possibilities and technical support. Cullberg Ballet also covered the travel and Per Diem expenses.


During the residency in Stockholm the artists gathered movement material and images for the production “Echoes” which is based around three 15 minute performance pieces on the audio tapes of Judy Garland, Marilyn Monroe and an unknown elderly lady, using drag, lip syncing and movement to portray these tragic and vulnerable women.

During the two week residency at Riksteatern, the artists where able to research and develop ideas and material that would be a starting block for the production “Echoes”, scheduled to premier at the Woman of the World festival at the Southbank Centre on Friday the March 8, 2013. At the end of the residency there was an internal work in progress showing for the artistic staff and dancers of the Cullberg Ballet.
