Sona Veda is a site-specific performance project conceived in collaboration with a team of emerging Turkish performance artists, actresses, musicians and journalists together with an international team of dancers. The project is supervised by Emio Greco and Pieter C. Scholten, and is based on their work Addio alla Fine, which they conceived for different port cities of the world. Inspired by Fellini’s film And the Ship Sails On (1983), the project questions the state of affairs in life, art and politics and is a meditation on endings, and on endings as new beginnings. Departing from the idea of bringing the audience --living in a period marked by Maya calendar’s divination on the end of time, scenarios of approaching ecological and political disaster-- together on the Noah’s Ark, the performance takes the passengers on a carnivalesque journey of lights, sounds, dance and words. At the same time, it aims to question the function of culture and the arts in the midst of economic crisis, market conditions, and state politics. Throughout a journey full of surprises, artists involved in the project disclose their own farewells to endings as they explore the place of the arts in contemporary reality.
